100 Meter Dash
Summers' Candace Brown just edged past Frankfort's Bria Welker for the win. Her 12.46 is the 9th Best Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Welker's 12.51 gives her a Tie for the 10th Best Class A-AA State Meet Performance. The front six all went under 13 seconds.

200 Meter Dash
Frankfort's Brian Welker pulled away from the field with her 25.65. Her trials time of 25.59 is good enough to stand as the 5th Best Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Oak Hill's Mercedes Lawson edged out Summers' Candace Brown for 2nd. Sherman's Donnie Kirk was also under 26.50. The front six were all uncer 26.60 and the front seven were all under 26.70.

400 Meter Dash
In one of the major upsets of the weekend, Frankfort's Bria Welker started to pull away from two-time defending Champion Shakilya Cosby of Oak Hill early in the homestretch. Welker went on to finish in 57.71, which is the 5th Best Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Lincoln's Madison Cunningham and Oak Glens' Alex Burch also went under 60 seconds. Cosby faded to fourth. The front six were under 60.3 seconds.

800 Meter Run
Oak Hill's Neaire Miller was just able to outkick Frankfort's Katie Jan by just 0.04 seconds. Miller's time of 2:19.20 stands as the 5th Best Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Jan's 2:19.24 is the 6th Best Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Wayne's Shannon Rutherford came in under 2:23 to take 3rd. No one else made it in under 2:25, but the front six was all under 2:30.

1600 Meter Run
Philip Barbour's Sarah McCauley and Oak Hill's Neaire Miller took the field out hard in 1:09. Herbert Hoover's Erica Hayes and Frankfort's Katie Jan came through in 1:11. After two laps, McCauley and Miller were still together with McCauley coming through in 2:30 and Miller in 2:31. Hayes and Jan were still together as well crossing in 2:35. McCauley pulled away from Miller on the 3rd lap, crossing in 3:52, four seconds ahead of Miller. Hayes and Jan remained together at 4:03. On the final lap, McCauley continued to assert herself, closing in 1:16 to hit a final time of 5:09.06, which is the 3rd Best Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Miller held on to 2nd crossing in 5:22.59. Hayes edged Jan at the line by just 0.02 seconds for 3rd. Weir's Alexis Virtue used a 1:17 last lap to move into 5th and nearly catch Hayes and Jan. The front five made it in under 5:27.

3200 Meter Run
After two laps, Philip Barbour's Sarah McCauley, Herbert Hoover's Erica Hayes, and Weir's Tricia Marker had separated themselves from the field. Everyone else was at least 4 seconds behind as the lead group came through in 2:39-2:40. After three laps, McCauley and Hayes crossed in 4:06 with Marker just two seconds back. The trio was now 9 seconds ahead of everyone else. At the 1600 Meter Mark, the front three remained McCauley and Hayes together at 5:37 with Marker 2 seconds behind. They were now 13 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. At the end of five laps, McCauley and Hayes remained together at 7:12 and Marker had closed to within 1 second. After six laps, it was McCauley and Marker at 8:46 and Hayes at 8:47. On the 7th lap, McCauley decided it was time to go. The previous 3 laps had been 1:31, 1:35, and 1:34. On lap 7, she went 1:21 and opened up a 13 second gap. Hayes opened a 4 second gap on Marker. On the final lap, Mccauley continued to push the pace, closing in 1:19 to cross in 11:26.67 and take the win by a whopping 25 seconds. Hayes went on to take 2nd in 11:51.91, just over 5 seconds ahead of Marker as the trio were the only ones to make it in under 12:00.

100 Meter High Hurdles
PikeView's Mariah Farley edged out Liberty Raleigh's Mireya Cangemi by just 0.06 for the win. Grafton's Kari Fawcett was the only other one in the field to go under 16.50. One of my predicted placers did not run.

300 Meter Low Hurdles
Poca's Adrian Cunningham destroyed the field with her 46.08 clocking. That put her over 1.75 seconds ahead of everyone else. Pikeview's Mariah Farley made it in under 48 seconds. The remaining four placers made it in under 49.

4x100 Meter Relay
Liberty Harrison won in dominating fashion, taking the event by 1.2 seconds. Oak Hill edged out Keyser, Independence, and Tyler Consolidated for 2nd as each was between 52.50 and 53.00.

4x200 Meter Relay
Liberty Harrison took the title by just under 1 second over Oak Hill as the pair dominated the field. Liberty ran a 1:47.11 and Oak Hill ran a 1:48.09. No one else was under 1:50. Only two others were under 1:51. One of my predicted placers received the dreaded DQ.

4x400 Meter Relay
Weir and Keyser battled through all four legs with Weir coming out on top by just over 2 seconds in the end. Wayne used a strong anchor leg from Shannon Rutherford to move into 3rd ahead of Oak Glen. Oak Hill used a 57.something anchor leg from Shakilya Cosby to move into 5th. The first four teams made it in under 4:16.

4x800 Meter Relay
Weir received a 2:24 anchor leg from Tricia Marker to move past Keyser and take the win in 10:06.83. Keyser easily held onto 2nd in 10:10.93. Grafton and Wayne were also under 10:20. Philip Barbour got a 2:25 anchor leg from Sarah McCauley to move from 8th to 5th.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Magnolia destroyed the field with their 1:07.32. That gave them the win by over 2.5 seconds as Keyser was the only other team to go under 1:10. All six placers were under 1:11. Two of my predicted placers were disqualified.

Magnolia's Ali Childers was the only jumper to clear 5'2. Independence's Brenna Williams was the only other jumper to top 5'0.

Tyler Consolidated's Jackie Clark cleared 8'6. She was the only vaulter to go higher than 7'6.

Long Jump
Frankfort's Bria Welker won by over a foot with her leap of 16'10.50. Three titles on the weekend for her. Only Keyser's Julia Ludwick went further than 15'6 among the rest of the field.

shot Put
Berkeley Springs' Harley Stotler defended her title from a year ago with her toss of 37'6. That was good enough to beat Point Pleasant's Alea Hipes by over a foot. Those two threw at least 36 feet. No one else hit 33'0, and only one other thrower went past 32'0.

Discus
Roane's Mikala Nicholson was the only thrower to top 100' with her throw of 100'2. The top two rated throwers each fouled on all three of their throws.
